Preliminary funding approved for Yonkers-based National Guard

WASHINGTON – Preliminary approval for $1.5 million in funding for the New York National Guard’s 101st Signal Battalion in Yonkers has been secured as part of the House FY 2011 Department of Defense Appropriations bill. The money will be used to purchase a mobile Satellite Communications Terminal.

The money is an earmark submitted by House Members Eliot Engel and Nita Lowey, both Democrats from Westchester County.

The bill must now be considered by the full House Appropriations Committee, and then the full House. The Senate is also working on their version of the bill.
